Title: "Everyone’s Son Is Fine"

Setting: A cozy café in New York. Afternoon. Four old college friends—Jack, Jasson, Christopher, and Tony—are meeting after decades for a casual reunion.

CHARACTERS:

Jack – Retired professor, proud of his successful son.

Jasson – Ex-lawyer, always slightly competitive.

Christopher – Former army colonel, patriotic and proud.

Tony – Chill, beer-loving, unpredictable.

📜 Scene: Reunion Cafe

(The four are seated at a table, sipping coffee, laughing about college days.)

Jack:

Can you believe it’s been 50 years since we graduated?

Jasson:

Fifty? Feels like yesterday we were bunking class to impress girls. (laughs)

Christopher:

And failing miserably every time. Especially you, Tony. (chuckles)

Tony:

Hey! Speak for yourself, Chris. I had style.

(They all laugh. A waiter passes. Tony excuses himself to the restroom.)

Jack (smiling proudly):

You know, last month, my son Martin gifted a BMW sports car to his friend for his birthday. He’s the CEO of a top software firm now.

Jasson (nodding smugly):

That’s cute. My son David? He owns a real-estate empire. Last month, he gifted a villa bungalow to his friend.

Christopher (puffs chest):

Impressive. But my son, Rocky, is a famous diplomat. Last month, he gave his friend a private jet. He’s running countries now—I wouldn’t be surprised if he becomes President someday.

(They all nod in awe. Tony returns and sits down, sipping his beer.)

Tony:

What’d I miss?

Jack:

Oh, just talking about our sons. They’re all doing so well!

Christopher (curious):

So, Tony... what does your son do for a living?

Tony (calmly):

Well... my son’s gay. He works as a dancer at a gay strip club.

(Everyone falls silent. Looks exchange. An awkward pause.)

Jack:

Oh... I’m... I’m sorry to hear that.

Jasson:

Yeah... I mean, that’s... tough.

Christopher (gently):

You okay with that, Tony?

Tony (grinning):

Of course I’m fine! My son’s fine too. In fact, last month... for his birthday, his three boyfriends gifted him a villa bungalow, a BMW sports car, and a private jet.

(Stunned silence. No laughter this time. The mood shifts.)

Jack (blinking rapidly):

Wait... what?

Jasson (uncomfortable):

Three boyfriends? Villa? Jet? Are you... joking?

Christopher (stiffly):

This is a bit much, Tony. That’s not exactly... something you brag about.

Tony (shrugging, coolly sipping his beer):

What can I say? Love comes in threes these days.

(Beat. Long silence. Awkward glances exchanged.)

Jack (sighs):

You know, I thought this reunion would be about remembering old times. Not... this circus.

Jasson (standing up slowly):

Yeah. I think this was a mistake. We’ve clearly grown too far apart.

Christopher (sternly):

This will be my last meet-up. I don’t think I want to do this again.

Tony (quietly):

Because my son’s gay?

Jack (looking away):

Because everything feels like a joke now.

Tony (softly):

No. What’s really a joke... is pretending our kids are perfect just so we can feel good.

(No reply. The other three slowly gather their coats. Tony stays seated.)

Christopher (coldly):

Take care, Tony.

Jasson:

Yeah… goodbye.

Jack (hesitating):

This is the last time, Tony. Let’s leave it at that.

(They walk out, leaving Tony alone at the table.)

(Tony sips the last of his beer. Looks out the window.)

Tony (softly, to himself):

Everyone’s fine, huh? Guess that only works when they’re just like you.

(He gives a small, bittersweet smile. Fade out.)

🎭 Tone:

Still retains the comedic twist, but ends on a more thought-provoking, emotional note.

Highlights generational biases and how pride can mask prejudice.

Leaves the audience laughing—but also reflecting.

should this be a standalone scene with a hard-hitting ending?
